How long does it take for OVA products to start to work?

We now know it takes on average 3 months for an egg to mature and 74 days for new sperm to be produced, that’s just shy of 3 months. It also takes the same amount of time for any supplement to be fully bioavailable in the body so it pays to plan ahead. For best results start taking OVA 3 months before TTC or starting fertility testing or treatment.

When is the best time to start taking OVA?

We recommend taking OVA for 3 months at a minimum. The reason being it takes 3 months for an egg to mature prior to ovulation, so you want to bathe those follicles in the best nutrients possible as the conditions they are exposed to during that time are crucial to support the health of your eggs. It also takes roughly 3 months for supplements to become fully bioavailable in your body. However, you should notice improved feelings of energy, immune, sleep and mental health within 2-4 weeks.

What does bioavailable actually mean?

Good question! In a nutsell — its refers to how your body absorbs — and uses — a supplement. And key to this, is what form of nutrient you put in a supplement and if there is a perfect pairing of another nutrient to further increase absorbtion At OVA we do both — all our nutrients are in their most bioavailable forms with the perfect ratio of their paired nutrient to make sure our supplement does all the hard work — so you don't have too.

Why should I order a set?

Bundling is a great way to ensure you have every essential nutrient you need when it comes nurturing your preconception and prenatal health — and whats more. when you bundle, you save up to 15% and who doesn't like a dizzy?

Product Support

Are OVA products safe to take once I am pregnant?

Yes, all our products have been formulated to be pregnancy safe — we wanted to give you the peace of mind that you can take OVA at any stage of your journey without the worry. We do, however, always advise before taking any supplement to consult with your doctor particularly if you are on prescription medications.

How should I take OVA products?

We advise taking any supplement containing B vitamins (of which we have B1, B2, B3, B6, B7, B9, B12) before 2pm in the afternoon — B vitamins are known to give us energy and could possibly interfere with sleep. Important to keep in mind that your daily hit of caffeine can inhibit the absorption of some vitamins and minerals (Iron, Calcium & Vitamin D) — so try to take at least an hour away from caffeine.

Who should take OVAHer?

We recommend OVAHer for anyone coming off Hormonal Birth Control, actively TTC (trying to conceive), going through fertility treatment, any stage of pregnancy and postpartum.

Should I take OVAHer with food?

We recommend taking OVAHer with a meal (our formulas contain fat-soluble vitamins A, D E & K, which are best taken with food, preferably with some healthy fats). It's important to keep in mind that your daily hit of caffeine can inhibit the absorption of some vitamins and minerals (Iron, Calcium & Vitamin D) — so try to take at least an hour away from caffeine.

Why do you have Vitamin A in OVAHer?

Vitamin A is crucial to the development of baby’s eyes, immunity, skin cell production and lung development. A healthy supply of Vitamin A is essential during preconception and throughout pregnancy to build up your baby-to-be’s natural stores in preparation for their first few months of life. It also supports your own health and immune system too. But the right amount of Vitamin A during pregnancy is a bit of a balancing act; too much can harm your developing baby and lead to birth defects, while too little carries certain risks to you and your baby’s development. The WHO says 10,000IU (equivalent to 3000 mcg) is the upper limit. At OVA, we have finely tuned our formulas with help of our fertility doctors and nutritionists to include just the right amount of Vitamin A that you and your baby needs, well within the safety guidelines. We use a split of Vitamin A (Retinol Acetate) and Beta Carotene. Retinol acetate is an active form of vitamin A which the body can readily utilize. It is also found in animal foods, especially liver and dairy products. Beta Carotene is the form of Vitamin A found in plants. It can be poorly absorbed and many people have a genetic variation that makes it difficult to convert to the active form. Our split combination provides enough retinol acetate to be effective, especially for those on a plant based diet, or who have difficulty converting Beta Carotene, while still being safe for pregnant mothers to-be.

Why is OVAOmega DHA only?

It’s been argued that DHA is as important for fertility as folic acid is to pregnancy (at OVA we believe in both). Since we’re unable to make our own DHA, it’s necessary to get it from food sources or supplements. The amount of DHA we get from our diets is typically well below what we need — DHA comes from fatty fish but the fish get theirs from the phytoplankton so we're going straight to the source with ours. But why is it so important to reproductive health? DHA has been shown to regulate the hormones in ovulation, help with follicle development, increase blood flow to the uterus and reduce inflammation (particularly good for conditions like PCOS and endometriosis). For the guys — DHA is crucial in maintaining healthy sperm function and improving sperm quality. Additionally, in pregnancy a growing baby relies totally on your stores of DHA for its brain and eye development.

Why do you use Folate instead of Folic Acid in OVAHer?

Most of us are familiar with Folic Acid – and for good reason. It’s the nutrient that has received the most attention for TTC & pregnancy. Folic Acid is a synthetic compound: it’s the man-made version of Folate. Folate is essential to support the production of that precious DNA in a developing baby’s cells. During pregnancy we have a 10-20 fold increase in folate requirements. It’s estimated that taking enough ‘folic acid’ during preconception & while pregnant may reduce the risk of neural tube defects (ie. spina bifida) by as much as 70%. Globally, 40% of people are unable to convert folic acid found in most supplements. We use Methylated Folate (as 5-MTHF), a superior, highly active and more bioavailable form which is better absorbed.

What are the speckles in my capsules?

At OVA, we have use higher quality, higher bioavailable ingredients — and a lot of them — which is why the capsule powder colour is not uniform and you will see slight speckles. It's also important to store your supplements according to the instructions (a cool, dry plave away from humidity) to avoid your capsules 'blooming' aka if your capsules darken or develop dark spots over long exposure to heat and humidity. This is a normal oxidative reaction and still perfectly safe to still consume.

Why do the capsules make me feel nauseated?

We know first hand how nausea inducing some fertility medication and treatment can be and, of course, the early stages of pregnancy, so we have purposefully creating our formulations to be nausea-free and gentle on the stomach — choosing speific forns of nutrirents that are kinder, gentler and more easily digestible.

What is the taste / smell of the capsules?

OVA uses nutrients in their most potent forms in each capsule so while we have tried to mitigate any smell or taste we didn’t want to compromise on our formula, so there may be a very slight distinctive smell and taste (Choline we’re looking at you!) but nothing that should be too noticeable or off putting.
