Heard of NAD+? You Need to Read This Now.

Read time: 3 minutes

If NAD+ has popped up on your feed lately, you're not imagining it. It's everywhere, from longevity podcasts to biohacking forums. But behind the hype is a molecule that matters for fertility more than most people realise. Here's what you actually need to know.

So what is NAD+?

NAD+ is a coenzyme found in every single cell in your body. It's essential for turning food into energy and for repairing everyday wear and tear on your cells. Think of it as the battery that keeps your cells running.  The catch? Your NAD+ levels naturally drop as you get older.

Why does that matter for your eggs?

Eggs are some of the most energy-hungry cells in the body and getting an egg ready for ovulation takes a lot of cellular power. As NAD+ levels decline with age, eggs can have less of that power available, and this is one of the reasons scientists think egg quality changes over time.

What does the science actually say?

Here's the honest bit. Human fertility research on NAD+ is still early days, but it's moving fast and it's promising. Studies so far suggest that topping up NAD+ could help support egg health as we age.

Can you get NAD+ from food?

Not really, at least not in meaningful amounts. Your body makes NAD+ from building blocks called precursors. The two you'll hear about most are NMN and NRC (nicotinamide riboside). Both are converted into NAD+ once they're inside your cells.  To give you an idea of scale, the amount of NRC in one daily dose of OVAXtra would take roughly 15,000 litres of milk to get from your diet.

How to fast track with extra support?

This is exactly why we created OVAXtra Advanced Fertility Support. As Alison Hall, OVA's Director of Nutrition, puts it: "Egg quality isn't just about what you eat, it's also about supporting the egg at a cellular level while it matures." That's why the formula is built around CoQ10, which helps power the energy factories inside your eggs, and Myo-Inositol, which supports how your ovaries respond to hormones.

Then there's the star of the show. In Alison's words: "The ingredient we're genuinely most excited about – NRC, a precursor to NAD+, which you just won't find in most UK fertility formulas."  It also includes resveratrol, NAC, zinc, vitamin C and active B6. Together, it's a formula designed to support your eggs at a cellular level.

NAD+ isn't a magic fix, but it is one of the most exciting areas in egg health right now, and the science is only getting stronger.
